Hair
How can I minimise hair loss?
The earlier you act, the more of your hair you keep. Here is what actually helps — and the one golden rule to follow.
After years in the hair industry, we have learned that the best way to avoid hair loss is refreshingly simple: relax about life, eat a variety of healthy food, leave your hair alone apart from washing every second or third day, and stay away from unnecessary medications.
If your genes have other plans, follow one golden rule: do not self-medicate, and do not shave your head to hide thinning.
Book an examination and consultation at Millennium Clinic as early as possible to find out the source of your problem and how it can be resolved. As with any health problem, the earlier you catch it, the better your chances of a positive result. With the latest scientific research, treating hair and scalp problems is no longer a hit-or-miss affair.

A holistic approach is needed
Thinning hair is a symptom with a number of possible causes — and problems are as varied as the people who have them. A one-size-fits-all solution or over-the-counter miracle cure simply is not good enough:
- Nutrition
- Stress
- Underlying medical conditions
- Mechanical damage (over-treatment)
- Autoimmune disorders such as alopecia
- Hormonal levels and associated disorders
- Genetic predisposition and its variations
Nutrition
Omega-3 fatty acids — found in fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, flaxseed oil, macadamias and walnuts — help maintain skin and hair health; aim for a source three times a week. Zinc deficiency, common on low-calorie diets, also affects hair; zinc comes from meat, eggs and seafood. Eight to ten glasses of water a day keeps your body hydrated and your hair silky and shiny.
Millennium Clinic can conduct detailed, accurate tests to establish whether nutrition is contributing to your hair loss, and our consultants will show you how to get back on track.
Stress — physical and emotional
Do you eat well, exercise, and sleep your eight hours? Is your life balanced, or are you pushing yourself beyond reason? Everything you do affects your body and mind. The good news: if you are out of balance, you can change it — and the sooner stress is eliminated, the sooner your hair starts growing back.
If you notice an excessive amount of hair falling out — clumps on your hairbrush, pillow or shower drain — consult Millennium Clinic as soon as you can. There may be a simple, effective solution.
Do not wait
The time to act is before thinning becomes noticeable. Early action saves more of your hair and may prevent baldness altogether — but better late than never.
